System Administrator
Main Requirements:
Tertiary qualifications in computer science or related subject, or equivalent industry experience.
Completion of appropriate accredited training in areas relevant to the position.
Significant experience in IT with a major portion of this time being in a disciplined infrastructure environment.
* Good knowledge of Linux and Solaris operating systems.
* Familiarity with UNIX and its commands/utilities at a user level; can edit files, use a shell, find users\' home directories, navigate through the filesystem, and use i/o redirection.
* Good skills with most UNIX commands/utilities. High familiarity with basic system administration tools and processes; run levels, managing user accounts, backup programs and fsck, maintenance of system database files (groups, hosts, aliases). Fundamental understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; job control, soft and hard links, distinctions between the kernel and the shell.
* Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts; for example, can use the route command, add a workstation to a network, and mount remote filesystems.
* Scripting in one or more administrative languages (Tk, Perl, shell).
* Comfortable with most aspects of UNIX systems administration; for example, configuration of mail systems (sendmail, postfix, exim), web servers (Apache), system installation and configuration, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software such as application servers (Resin, Tomcat).
* A good understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understanding of paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (\"inode\", \"superblock\").
* Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS, understands basic routing concepts.
* Able to install multiple machines remotely and automatically using network boot and kickstart.
* Knowledge of all common RAID levels and experience with hardware and software RAID systems.
An understanding of project methodologies and project life cycles.
Good written and oral English skills.
Good administrative and organisational skills.
The ability to work in a team environment and to cope with high pressure situations.
Where an individual may not meet all of the criteria but is still felt to be an appropriate candidate, employment may be offered at the discretion of the management. Appropriate training will be provided where necessary. |
