Software Test Engineer
General Description and Scope of Role
Mid level; requires general supervision. Competent in their discipline. Has demonstrated good work quality, judgment, teamwork, and an ability to communicate with peers, customers, and management.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Analyst II is functionally competent and working toward functional expertise in their discipline as it relates to the business objectives of company. The position will assist with the activities for approved Projects, system improvements, and ad-hoc or emergency requests. The Analyst II will maintain an understanding and work to develop expertise of the functional processes used by company.
Essential Job Functions
General
Assists with creation of processes and procedures with input from business teams, development, and IT Support.
Maintains proficiency in the application and use of systems, tools, and processes within the department\'s scope
Maintains proficiency in the business processes that drive the applications within the departments scope
Promotes customer satisfaction and quality customer service within company for Clients and other company departments.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with Clients and other company departments
Supports after hours tasks as required by the Manager and/or Sr. Analyst.
Escalates issues to the Manager and/or Sr. manager in a timely and appropriate manner.
Organizes workload to meet deadlines as assigned by the team leadership.
Maintains a working knowledge of company\'s applications and system integration.
Develops a strong level of understanding of the company markets.
Creates, maintains, reviews, and adheres to required departmental processes and procedures as assigned by the Manager and/or Sr. Manager.
Understands and adheres to company\'s inter-departmental processes and procedures.
Attends appropriate intra-departmental meetings as directed by team leadership.
Exhibits drive and initiative to learn whatever is necessary to explore new solutions.
Ensures the team leadership is informed of schedules and timelines, statuses, issues, mitigations and all other information necessary or requested.
Assists with the compilation of status notifications for business stakeholders and Client Relations.
Maintains proficiency in the application and use of tools within the department.
Monitors data security.
Technical
Assists with and supports the maintenance of a clear and concise statistical and metric-based reporting of testing progress including reports and dashboards
Supports the testing environment and the testing lifecycle by reporting defects using the defined reporting process
Maintains, and executes functional tests using automation tools and reports results using defined process and resources
Analyzes and identifies system defects through functional, regression, and performance testing. Appropriately escalates these issues as defined by the processes
Works with off shore testing teams
Interested in enhancing skills and learning new technologies
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The following requirements are for Automation testing positions only:
Develops effective, maintainable code in a timely fashion
Develops automated testing scripts and code modules for testing automation
Follows established coding standards and techniques
Participates in code reviews to ensure adherence to established coding and architectural standards
Involved in integrating on-shore and off-shore code
Shows a strong attention to development detail, produces high-quality code
Experience and Educational Requirements
General
Associates degree in Business, Computer Sciences or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered)
3 - 5 years experience in a similar field
3 years experience in one or more of the following areas (or combination thereof):
o Telecommunications industry
o Insurance / claims industry
o Relevant IT Discipline
Proficient understanding of SDLC processes desired
Skill in diagnosing and solving complex problems and providing detailed technical analysis
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong computer skills including common business applications such as MS Windows and MS Office including Excel, Word and Access.
Knowledge of theory and principles of project management desired
Technical
1 - 2 years testing SDLC management, or similar experience
Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and relational database structures.
Proficiency in Release Management and Testing processes preferred
Experience reporting testing results in a clear, detailed, and analytical style using fact-based metrics setting aside personal bias and subjectivity preferred
Knowledge of system integration
Specific Knowledge/experience in several of the following:
o Building Testing Scenarios from Requirements
o Requirements reviews
o Reading and using Use Cases
o Developing Test Scripts
Ability to accurately perform troubleshooting and repair of existing test scripts
Proven ability to meet deliverable targets
Proven ability to carry a set of tasks from start to finish
The following requirements are for Automation testing positions only:
1 - 2 years experience in automation testing using data-driven and object-oriented processes
1 - 2 years experience developing software in an object-oriented language
Experience using the Mercury Suite of Testing Tools (WinRunner, QuickTest Professional, Test Director, Quality Center, Load Runner, BPT, PPM) preferred
Strong knowledge of testing automation
Ability to lead one or two other resources
Specific Knowledge/experience in several of the following:
o Visual Basic Scripting
o Software Development using OOD / OOP
o Analysis
o SQL Server 2000
o Data-driven Automation Testing |
