Linux Administrator

Main Requirements:


Requirements:

* 2+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator (significant hobbyist experience may be acceptable)
* BS in Computer Science or similar discipline, or significant professional experience
* Strong familiarity with Red Hat Linux or CentOS. Experience in other distributions will be considered, but RHEL/CentOS is preferred.
* Excellent knowledge of standard network protocols including Ethernet, ARP, TCP/IP, FTP, and SMTP is a must.
* Knowledge of various Linux server applications including Postfix, Samba/Winbind, Puppet, Nagios, Apache, and Squid is important.
* Proficiency in some scripting language is required; Bash or Perl is preferred.
* Experience with a fiber channel SAN is preferred.
* Some experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Active Directory is a must.
* Strong, analytical troubleshooting skills. The candidate should be able to solve problems in a well thought out, evidence based manner.
* Excellent English communication skills. The candidate should be a fluent English speaker, and be able to precisely communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Driven and self motivated. A good candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision.
* Excellent time management skills are a must. The candidate should be able to complete projects on tight deadlines, while handling numerous unplanned interruptions.
* Candidates must be willing to participate in a 24/7 weekly on call rotation, and occasionally work after normal business hours when needed.


Job Responsibilities:


* Maintain updates on CentOS/Red Hat Linux servers
* Maintain complex kickstart configurations
* Troubleshoot Linux servers and applications, including interoperation between Linux and Windows machines
* Provision and deploy new Linux servers and applications
* Architect Linux implementations and solutions throughout the enterprise.
* Proactively monitor the health and performance of Linux servers and applications.
* Create and customize scripts and jobs to automate system administration.
* Create and update system documentation.
* Respond to problems within the infrastructure with a strong sense of urgency.
* Create and execute project plans.
* Communicate effectively with fellow engineers. Mentor peers and new recruits.
* Work closely with colleagues in other departments on problems and projects.
* Stay abreast of current and emerging technologies, trends and best practices.
